  1. Changes from Ant 1.2 to the current sources
  2. ===========================================
  3. Changes that could break older environments:
  4. --------------------------------------------
  5. * Ant doesn't search for the buildfile anymore, unless you use the new
  6. -find argument.
  7. Other changes:
  8. --------------
  9. * A GUI Frontend: Antidote
  10. * New tasks: propertyfile, depend, antlr, telnet, csc, ilasm, transform
  11. * Added output attribute to <java>.
  12. * Added nested prefixedfileset element to <war>
  13. * Changed <sql> so that printing is at the task level rather than
  14. the statement level.
  15. * javadoc task will pass -d flag to any doclet if the destDir attribute is
  16. given. If the doclet does not accept the -d flag then omit the destdir
  17. attribute.
  18. * <cab> can work on non-Windows platforms with the help of libcabinet.
  19. See http://trill.cis.fordham.edu/~barbacha/cabinet_library/.
  20. * <FTP> now supports passive mode.
  21. Fixed bugs:
  22. -----------
  23. * <signjar> doesn't use deprectated methods anymore.
  24. * javadoc's failonerror attribute works again
  25. * Changed <sql> task so that printing result sets works on Oracle
  26. * Changes to ddcreator and ejbc helper to respect the descriptor hierarchy
  27. keppgenerated in ejbc can now be turned off
  28. * ejbjar now correctly ignores <ejb-ref> elements in the deployment descriptor.
  29. CMP files are included by parsing the weblogic deployment descriptor rather than
  30. relying on the naming convention used in ant 1.2
  31. Include super classes and super interfaces into the generated ejb jar files
  32. Changes from Ant 1.1 to Ant 1.2
  33. ===============================
  34. Changes that could break older environments:
  35. --------------------------------------------
  36. * Semantics of <property> has changed again in the hope to be more
  37. intuitive. ${} expansion now happens at runtime and <property> tags
  38. living inside of targets only take effect if they are visited at
  39. runtime.
  40. As a side effect of this change, task's attributes get set at runtime
  41. not at parser time as well, which might change the results of
  42. <script>s or other custom tasks that reference other tasks by their id
  43. attribute.
  44. * copying of support files in <javac> has been removed - as well as
  45. the filtering attribute.
  46. * the <expand> and <keysubst> tasks have been removed.
  47. * the ignore and items attributes of directory based tasks have been removed.
  48. * the command line switches _not_ starting with - have been removed.
  49. * Path and EnumeratedAttribute have been moved from
  50. org.apache.tools.ant to org.apache.tools.ant.types.
  51. * the class attributes of <available>, <java>, <rmic> and <taskdef>
  52. have been removed.
  53. * the src attribute of <chmod> has been removed.
  54. * <patch> and <javadoc> have lost some of their attributes.
  55. * <java> and <cvs> have lost some undocumented attributes.
  56. * the Unix antRun script would search for command.sh in the directory
  57. it changed to and invoke this instead of command if present. This
  58. behavior has been dropped.
  59. * <ejbjar> task syntax has been changed significantly
  60. * <exec> is no longer implemented by org.apache.tool.ant.taskdefs.Exec.
  61. Custom tasks that rely on Project.createTask("exec") to return an
  62. instance of this class are going to fail.
  63. * nested <include> and <exclude> elements expect the value of their
  64. name attribute to be a single pattern, they don't accept multiple
  65. patterns anymore. Split them into multiple elements of the same type.
  66. * <delete dir="somedir" /> will now delete the directory itself as
  67. well as all included files. If you just want to clean out the
  68. directory and keep the empty one, use a nested fileset.
  69. Other changes:
  70. --------------
  71. * New tasks: antstructure, cab, execon, fail, ftp, genkey, jlink,
  72. junit, sql, javacc, jjtree, starteam, war, unwar, uptodate,
  73. native2ascii, copy, move, mparse.
  74. * copydir, copyfile, deltree and rename are now deprecated. They
  75. should be replaced with the new copy, delete and move tasks.
  76. * <java> uses a ClassLoader of its own in no-fork mode if a classpath is
  77. specified.
  78. * <style> will create the necessary target directories and reprocess
  79. all files if the stylesheet changes.
  80. * New data types fileset and patternset - expected to get a broader use.
  81. They, as well as PATH like structures, can now be defined on a global
  82. level and later be referenced by their id attribute.
  83. * You can specify environment variables to <exec>.
  84. * <get> can check whether a remote file is actually newer than a local
  85. copy before it starts a download (HTTP only).
  86. * Added a -logger option to allow the class which performs logging to be
  87. specified on the command line.
  88. * Added a -emacs option to tell the logger to leave out taskname adornments
  89. on log output.
  90. * <chmod> works on all files in parallel and supports multiple filesets.
  91. * <replace> can now use tokens and/or values that cross line boundaries.
  92. * build.compiler supports now jvc as well.
  93. * project specific help can now be obtained with the -projecthelp option.
  94. * Added a -debug option to make -verbose less verbose (and more useful)
  95. * Ant will now search for a file named build.xml in the parent directory
  96. and above (towards the root of the filesystem) if you didn't specify
  97. -buildfile and there is no build.xml in the current directory.
  98. * <echo> can now write to a file and accepts nested text.
  99. Fixed bugs:
  100. -----------
  101. * <chmod> didn't work when used as a directory based task.
  102. * Path, Available, Property didn't resolve relative filenames with
  103. respect to the Project's basedir.
  104. * Project didn't interpret the basedir attribute correctly in all
  105. cases.
  106. * Nested <src> in <javac> caused NullPointerException.
  107. * Corrupt Zip- and Jar-files ar now deleted if the task fails.
  108. * many more fixes we've forgotten to document here ...
