  1. Changes from Ant 1.2 to the current sources
  2. ===========================================
  3. Other changes:
  4. --------------
  5. * New tasks: propertyfile, depend
  6. * Added output attribute to <java>.
  7. * Added nested prefixedfileset element to <war>
  8. * Changed <sql> so that printing is at the task level rather than
  9. the statement level.
  10. * javadoc task will pass -d flag to any doclet if the destDir attribute is
  11. given. If the doclet does not accept the -d flag then omit the destdir
  12. attribute.
  13. Fixed bugs:
  14. -----------
  15. * <signjar> doesn't use deprectated methods anymore.
  16. * javadoc's failonerror attribute works again
  17. * Changed <sql> task so that printing result sets works on Oracle
  18. Changes from Ant 1.1 to Ant 1.2
  19. ===============================
  20. Changes that could break older environments:
  21. --------------------------------------------
  22. * Semantics of <property> has changed again in the hope to be more
  23. intuitive. ${} expansion now happens at runtime and <property> tags
  24. living inside of targets only take effect if they are visited at
  25. runtime.
  26. As a side effect of this change, task's attributes get set at runtime
  27. not at parser time as well, which might change the results of
  28. <script>s or other custom tasks that reference other tasks by their id
  29. attribute.
  30. * copying of support files in <javac> has been removed - as well as
  31. the filtering attribute.
  32. * the <expand> and <keysubst> tasks have been removed.
  33. * the ignore and items attributes of directory based tasks have been removed.
  34. * the command line switches _not_ starting with - have been removed.
  35. * Path and EnumeratedAttribute have been moved from
  36. org.apache.tools.ant to org.apache.tools.ant.types.
  37. * the class attributes of <available>, <java>, <rmic> and <taskdef>
  38. have been removed.
  39. * the src attribute of <chmod> has been removed.
  40. * <patch> and <javadoc> have lost some of their attributes.
  41. * <java> and <cvs> have lost some undocumented attributes.
  42. * the Unix antRun script would search for command.sh in the directory
  43. it changed to and invoke this instead of command if present. This
  44. behavior has been dropped.
  45. * <ejbjar> task syntax has been changed significantly
  46. * <exec> is no longer implemented by org.apache.tool.ant.taskdefs.Exec.
  47. Custom tasks that rely on Project.createTask("exec") to return an
  48. instance of this class are going to fail.
  49. * nested <include> and <exclude> elements expect the value of their
  50. name attribute to be a single pattern, they don't accept multiple
  51. patterns anymore. Split them into multiple elements of the same type.
  52. * <delete dir="somedir" /> will now delete the directory itself as
  53. well as all included files. If you just want to clean out the
  54. directory and keep the empty one, use a nested fileset.
  55. Other changes:
  56. --------------
  57. * New tasks: antstructure, cab, execon, fail, ftp, genkey, jlink,
  58. junit, sql, javacc, jjtree, starteam, war, unwar, uptodate,
  59. native2ascii, copy, move, mparse.
  60. * copydir, copyfile, deltree and rename are now deprecated. They
  61. should be replaced with the new copy, delete and move tasks.
  62. * <java> uses a ClassLoader of its own in no-fork mode if a classpath is
  63. specified.
  64. * <style> will create the necessary target directories and reprocess
  65. all files if the stylesheet changes.
  66. * New data types fileset and patternset - expected to get a broader use.
  67. They, as well as PATH like structures, can now be defined on a global
  68. level and later be referenced by their id attribute.
  69. * You can specify environment variables to <exec>.
  70. * <get> can check whether a remote file is actually newer than a local
  71. copy before it starts a download (HTTP only).
  72. * Added a -logger option to allow the class which performs logging to be
  73. specified on the command line.
  74. * Added a -emacs option to tell the logger to leave out taskname adornments
  75. on log output.
  76. * <chmod> works on all files in parallel and supports multiple filesets.
  77. * <replace> can now use tokens and/or values that cross line boundaries.
  78. * build.compiler supports now jvc as well.
  79. * project specific help can now be obtained with the -projecthelp option.
  80. * Added a -debug option to make -verbose less verbose (and more useful)
  81. * Ant will now search for a file named build.xml in the parent directory
  82. and above (towards the root of the filesystem) if you didn't specify
  83. -buildfile and there is no build.xml in the current directory.
  84. * <echo> can now write to a file and accepts nested text.
  85. Fixed bugs:
  86. -----------
  87. * <chmod> didn't work when used as a directory based task.
  88. * Path, Available, Property didn't resolve relative filenames with
  89. respect to the Project's basedir.
  90. * Project didn't interpret the basedir attribute correctly in all
  91. cases.
  92. * Nested <src> in <javac> caused NullPointerException.
  93. * Corrupt Zip- and Jar-files ar now deleted if the task fails.
  94. * many more fixes we've forgotten to document here ...
