  23. <section name="Apache Ant&amp;#x2122;">
  24. <p>Apache Ant is a Java library and command-line tool who's
  25. mission is to drive processes described in build files as targets
  26. and extension points dependent upon each other.
  27. The main known usage of Ant is the build of Java applications.
  28. Ant supplies a number of built-in tasks allowing to compile, assemble,
  29. test and run Java applications.
  30. Ant can also be used effectively to build non Java applications, for
  31. instance C or C++ applications. More generally, Ant can be used to
  32. pilot any type of process which can be described in terms of targets
  33. and tasks.
  34. </p>
  35. <p>
  36. Ant is written in Java. Users of Ant can develop their own
  37. &quot;antlibs&quot; containing Ant tasks and types, and are offered
  38. a large number of ready-made commercial or open-source &quot;antlibs&quot;.
  39. </p>
  40. <p>
  41. Ant is extremely flexible and does not impose coding conventions or
  42. directory layouts to the Java projects which adopt it as a build tool.
  43. </p>
  44. <p>
  45. Software development projects looking for a solution combining build tool and
  46. dependency management can use Ant in combination with <a href="http://ant.apache.org/ivy/">Apache Ivy</a>.
  47. </p>
  48. <p>The Apache Ant project is part of
  49. the <a href="http://www.apache.org/">Apache Software
  50. Foundation</a>.</p>
