194.
Use nested
<sysproperty>

196. These properties will be made available to the VM during the execution
197. of the class (either ANT's VM or the forked VM). The attributes
198. for this element are the same as for environment

238.
since Ant 1.6.

239.
redirector

240. Since Ant 1.6.2
241.
A nested I/O Redirector
242. can be specified. In general, the attributes of the redirector behave
243. as the corresponding attributes available at the task level. The most
244. notable peculiarity stems from the retention of the <java>
245. attributes for backwards compatibility. Any file mapping is done
246. using a
null
sourcefile; therefore not all
247. Mapper types will return
248. results. When no results are returned, redirection specifications
249. will fall back to the task level attributes. In practice this means that
250. defaults can be specified for input, output, and error output files.
251.

252.
Errors and return codes

253. By default the return code of a
<java>
is ignored. Alternatively, you can set
resultproperty
to the name
254. of a property and have it assigned to the result code (barring immutability,
255. of course).
256. When you set
failonerror="true"
, the only possible value for
resultproperty
is 0. Any non zero response is treated as an
257. error and would mean the build exits.
258.
Similarly, if
failonerror="false"
and
fork="false"

259. , then
<java>
must return 0 otherwise the build will exit, as the class was run by the build jvm.

260.
JAR file execution

261. The parameter of the jar attribute is of type File;
262. that is, the parameter is resolved to an absolute file relative to the
263. base directory of the project, not the directory in which the Java
264. task is run. If you need to locate a JAR file relative to the directory
265. the task will be run in, you need to explicitly create the full path
266. to the JAR file.
267.
Examples

268.

269. <java classname="test.Main">
270. <arg value="-h"/>
271. <classpath>
272. <pathelement location="dist/test.jar"/>
273. <pathelement path="${java.class.path}"/>
274. </classpath>
275. </java>
276.

277. Run a class in this JVM with a new jar on the classpath
278.
<java jar="dist/test.jar"
279. fork="true"
280. failonerror="true"
281. maxmemory="128m"
282. >
283. <arg value="-h"/>
284. <classpath>
285. <pathelement location="dist/test.jar"/>
286. <pathelement path="${java.class.path}"/>
287. </classpath>
288. </java>
289.

290. Run the JAR test.jar in this project's dist/lib directory.
291. using the manifest supplied entry point, forking (as required),
292. and with a maximum memory of 128MB. Any non zero return code breaks the build.
293.
<java
294. dir="${exec.dir}"
295. jar="${exec.dir}/dist/test.jar"
296. fork="true"
297. failonerror="true"
298. maxmemory="128m"
299. >
300. <arg value="-h"/>
301. <classpath>
302. <pathelement location="dist/test.jar"/>
303. <pathelement path="${java.class.path}"/>
304. </classpath>
305. </java>
306.

307. Run the JAR dist/test.jar relative to the directory
308. ${exec.dir}, this being the same directory into which the JVM
309. is to start up.
310.
<java classname="test.Main"/>

311.
<java classname="test.Main"
312. fork="yes" >
313. <sysproperty key="DEBUG" value="true"/>
314. <arg value="-h"/>
315. <jvmarg value="-Xrunhprof:cpu=samples,file=log.txt,depth=3"/>
316. </java>
317.

318. Note: you can not specify the (highly deprecated) MSJVM, "jview.exe" as the
319. JVM, as it takes different parameters for other JVMs,
320. That JVM can be started from
<exec>
if required.
