  1132. needs an external library and it has a nested classpath
  1133. element so that you can point it to this external library, but
  1134. that doesn&apos;t work unless you put the external library
  1135. into the <code>CLASSPATH</code> or place it in
  1136. <code>ANT_HOME/lib</code>.</p>
  1137. <p>Some background is necessary before we can discuss
  1138. solutions for <a href="#delegating-classloader-1.5">Ant
  1139. 1.5.x</a> and <a href="#delegating-classloader-1.6">Ant
  1140. 1.6.x</a>.</p>
  1141. <p>When you specify a nested <code>&lt;classpath&gt;</code> in
  1142. Ant, Ant creates a new class loader that uses the path you
  1143. have specified. It then tries to load additional classes from
  1144. this classloader.</p>
  1145. <p>In most cases - for example using &lt;style&gt; or
  1146. &lt;junit&gt; - Ant doesn&apos;t load the external library
  1147. directly, it is the loaded class that does so.</p>
  1148. <p>In the case of <code>&lt;junit&gt;</code> it is the task
  1149. implementation itself and in the case of
  1150. <code>&lt;style&gt;</code> it is the implementation of the
  1151. <code>org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.XSLTLiaison</code>
  1152. class.</p>
  1153. <p><em>As of Ant 1.7</em> <code>&lt;junit&gt;</code> no longer

  1262. this is the same problem this entry is about, only
  1263. <code>ant.jar</code> has become the external library in

  1266. <code>~/.ant/lib</code> and any file or directory that has
  1267. been specified using Ant's <code>-lib</code> command line
  1268. argument.</p>
  1269. <p>Let's see what happens when you load the &lt;junit&gt;
  1270. task. Ant&apos;s class loader will consult the bootstrap
  1271. class loader first, which tries to load classes from
